BY JAMES BOND
Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia
Waverly Press
1936
James Bond was an American Ornithologist and research associate in vertebrate zoology at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. He made an intensive study of the birds of the West Indies from 1926 - 1936, and produced this 456 pages book.
Eleven years later, in 1947, Bond published it as the "Field Guide to Birds of the West Indies" (a 257 pages book, see my eBay store. I also have a copy for sale).
If you are wondering, Ian Fleming stole the "James Bond" name and used it for his famous Agent 007.
This IS NOT an ex-library book. Hard cover no DJ.
FIRST EDITION AND FIRST (AND ONLY) PRINTING OF THIS EDITION
The book is in good condition, a little browning around the edges, and two of the pages of warblers have come away from the binding, however it is in a shape that it obviously was never taken in the field trips to see birds. A map of the west indies adorns the end pages and inside cover. A beautiful color frontispiece of the Cuban Tody, one of the smallest birds in the world is very attractive.
Truly a RARE book and difficult to find.
